The first step is to find out if you have a conventional loan that is owned by either Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. You can do this by going to the Making Home Affordable website and using the Freddie and Fannie lookup tool. Click here: Lookup Tool

If you are in Freddie or Fannie’s database, then the next step is to read carefully the acquisition date on the Fannie or Freddie finder screen. Your loan must have been acquired by Fannie or Freddie prior to June 1, 2009. If it is, then you might be eligible to refinance your home with a Tucson HARP 2 refinance loan.

Now the final criteria is that you cannot have any late mortgage payments in the last 6 months and no more than 1 x 30-day late in the past 12 months. If you have had a late payment in the past 6 months, then don’t fret because this program will be around until the end of 2013 – so there will be time to get in that position.
