Update: USDA Rural Development Changes

By Joseph Small

USDA Map Tucson AZAs I posted a few weeks ago, there are some important changes coming to the USDA Rural Development loan program (see USDA Loan Changes will effect the Tucson | Phoenix Arizona Areas. The major change is that the eligible areas under the USDA home loan program will be updated to use the new 2010 census data, as opposed to the current 2000 census data. These changes were supposed to take effect on October 1, 2013. However with the recent government shutdown, the passage of the Continuing Appropriations Act of 2014 has postponed the implementation date to January 15, 2014.

If you are planning to purchase a home with a USDA home loan, then now would be a good time to see if it is in the current area versus the “future eligible” areas.
